Who is this retreat for?
Our retreat is for married or engaged couples looking to level set and "calibrate" on some key elements of a successful marriage like communication styles, expectations and shared core values. Couples that gain the most from the retreat are those that come with an open mind, a willingness to share and be vulnerable and a desire to learn from other couples - whether married 10 months or 10 years. We seek couples who can be self-reflective, emotionally mature and non-judgmental.
While all couples have issues (including us), we do not bill the retreat as the solution to marriage's challenges. Rather, our retreat will help you to be introspective about your feelings, identify some improvement areas for your marriage, and articulate your insights in a constructive way. The process is enhanced by interacting in a small and trusting community of like-minded couples.
What if I'm uncomfortable sharing?
Everyone is encouraged to participate by sharing during the open discussions but participation is at your discretion. We aim to make the environment as comfortable as possible for everyone and use several different small group configurations to accomplish this goal.
How many other couples usually attend?
We try to keep the retreat relatively small as it gives everyone a chance to contribute to the discussion and fosters a small, intimate and confidential environment.
This event has reached capacity (~10-12 couples) every year for the past three years, so don't delay your registration. Sign up today, as spots fill up fast!
Will there be guest speakers?
Our retreat will be 100% peer-facilitated. We believe in and value the power of peer-learning. We learn from each other through open and honest dialogue, constructively challenging each other's thinking, and giving time for self-reflection. We establish ground rules that create a respectful and confidential environment where we can share openly and freely.
Do I have to be engaged or married to attend?
We require attendees to be engaged or married.
Will there be time to have fun?
There will be plenty of time to have fun. From the retreat's start, we have fun meeting each other in the opening Friday night dinner - unwinding from the work week or de-stressing from travel to the retreat site. On Saturday night, we invite you to re-kindle the fire as you and your honey go out on date-night in downtown Princeton. On Sunday, we turn up with a tailgate party featuring the NFL Playoffs. Not to mention, our same-gender and mixed-gender breakout sessions are usually good for some memorable LOL moments!
Do I have to stay the entire weekend?
We strongly encourage attendees plan to stay through the entire weekend. You will get more out of the retreat and add more value for others by staying through the entire weekend.
Can I bring my kids (or pets)?
We do not allow children (and/or pets) to participate in the retreat. This weekend is about you and your spouse, no one else. We all love our kids (and pets) but they can be huge distractions when we're trying to work on ourselves and our relationships. If you can't go long without them, no worries...you will get a chance to FaceTime during breaks!
